Cold-Drawn Special Section Steel

Cold Drawn Special Section Steel

Custom non-standard steel profiles manufactured to your drawing or sample — in-house die development, multi-pass drawing, full material traceability.

Cold drawn special section steel (non-standard steel profiles) is manufactured by drawing hot rolled bar through custom-designed dies to produce a specific cross-section that standard round, square, flat or hexagonal bars cannot provide. The process delivers the same benefits as conventional cold drawing — tight tolerance, bright surface and good straightness — while meeting the exact profile geometry required by your application.

Suzhou Zhenfu Cold-Drawn Steel Co., Ltd. specializes in custom cold drawn profiles. With in-house die development, multi-pass gradient drawing, constant-temperature annealing and precision straightening, we turn customer drawings or samples into production runs in carbon steel, alloy steel and free-cutting grades. Custom profiles are widely used in shipbuilding, defense equipment, precision machinery, guide rails, piston components and other applications where standard sections are not sufficient — all backed by over 18 years of cold drawn steel manufacturing experience.

How We Make Custom Cold Drawn Profiles

  1. Drawing / sample review. Our engineers review the cross-section, dimensional requirements, material grade and application to confirm feasibility and recommend the drawing process.

  2. Die development. Dies are developed in-house for the required profile, with process parameters set for the specific material.

  3. Multi-pass cold drawing. Gradient multi-pass drawing forms the profile with dense, uniform structure and bright surface.

  4. Annealing & straightening. Constant-temperature stress-relief annealing and precision straightening ensure dimensional stability and straightness.

  5. Cutting & inspection. Cut-to-length with clean edges; final inspection covers dimensions, tolerances, straightness, surface and hardness, with MTC documentation.

Applications

Cold drawn special section steel is used for shipbuilding components, defense equipment parts, elevator and guide rail profiles, piston rods, precision machine components, textile machinery parts and custom hardware — anywhere a non-standard cross-section reduces machining cost or improves performance. Typical applications include:

  • Shipbuilding — custom sections for hull structures, deck equipment and marine components

  • Defense equipment — high-strength precision profiles for critical assemblies

  • Precision machinery — guide profiles, rails and structural sections

  • Automotive and hydraulics — custom profiles for piston rods and structural parts

Why Choose Suzhou Zhenfu for Custom Profiles

Cold Drawn Special Section Steel FAQ

What information do you need to quote a custom profile?

A drawing (DWG/PDF/2D/3D), a sample, or a description of the cross-section, plus material grade, quantity and target standard. Our engineers will confirm feasibility and lead time, usually within 24 hours.

Can you develop the die for my profile?

Yes, dies are developed in-house based on your drawing or sample. Because the die belongs to the project, your profile design stays protected during production.

Which steel grades can be custom drawn?

Carbon steel (20#, 45#, Q235, Q355), alloy steel (40Cr, 42CrMo, 20CrMnTi, 65Mn) and free-cutting steel (12L14, Y40Mn) are regularly produced; other grades are evaluated on request.

What is the minimum order for custom profiles?

Custom profiles can start with small trial orders. Once the die is developed, production scales to container loads and annual framework contracts.

How is quality verified for custom profiles?

Every profile batch is inspected for dimensions, tolerances, straightness, surface and hardness, and bilingual MTCs with chemical and mechanical data are provided. Third-party inspection by SGS or BV can be arranged.
